Gender Bias — Definitely: Part Fourteen (Specialization)

June 27th, 2013

Regardless of what we do in the church, if we do not do it for the right reason, then we are wasting time.  We are not just wasting our time, but we are also wasting the time of other members of the congregation.  We can try to say that we have no responsibility for emotions of others, but that is wrong.  As the apostle Paul taught us:  we all need to be aware that our area of service is somewhat optional, as pertains to location of delivery.  Consider this Scripture.

I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.  But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

Let not then your good be evil spoken of:  For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.  For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.  For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.  It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.  And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

(Romans 14:14-22)

Does this mean that I will not operate in the church unless there is a group consensus about what I am doing?  Of course, that is not the answer.  We do not have to give undue weight to group consensus.  However, we do have to present clear biblical doctrine that supports our position of service.  Among the times when this was clearly demonstrated was when Peter and the other apostles were told that they could not preach in Jesus’ name.  This is that episode of history.

The Power of Something from Nothing: Part Nine (Not Done Yet)

June 17th, 2013

Now, we can rest in this:  within every something, there is a potential for something else.  That is true, even if the only thing that is in a thing is the possibility of discovery.  This is not a matter of accident, nor is it just evolution.  That there is something that can–indeed, must–come from any given something is a matter of Design.  I think about this, often, as I am reviewing the process of development of the human race.  In the Beginning, God identified this something that was placed in mankind.

And God spake unto Noah, saying, Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.  Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.

And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him:  Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.

(Genesis 8:15-19)

Yes, to be fruitful, and multiply; this is the same something that is in all biological things.  No, it is not restricted to the successful completion of pregnancy, toward the end of having babies.  As God emplaced fruitfulness, it is more than species reproduction.  As God designed fruitfulness, it is also the way that we establish order.  When the LORD said the following, it was, too, a way for humans to be fruitful.

Gender Bias — Definitely: Part Thirteen (Positive Precision)

June 6th, 2013

If we are imprecise in our observation of where we are in the mix of environments of service, we can be the source of misuse of the doctrine of the Bible.  In consideration of our topic of this day, we say that sloppiness may persuade us that we should discard gender bias when we are in the church, in favor of some activist’s approach that may be appropriate in the family.  Sometimes, we do this as based on, what may be called, equal rights.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Scripture persuades us to keep precision active in worship.  For instance, Scripture draws a distinction in the gender, by establishing a new title of reference.  An example of that is seen in the following Scripture’s use of the word, prophetess.
And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.  And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying, Go ye, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.
(2 Kings 22:11-14)
In that Scripture, the woman is not referred to as being a prophet.  Moreover, as is obvious, the prophetess is not a priest.  Yes, these distinctions are important:  yes, they are very important.  A prophet could be called upon to carry out capital punishment, as was done with the prophet Elijah.  The action of this prophet of God begins with the gathering together of certain false prophets of Israel.
The Power of Something from Nothing: Part Eight (Many Somethings)
May 27th, 2013
We have come to the point at which the thing that exists in our sparse view of reality must do something.  So, let us consider the principal that is the mandate for actions and entities that have reached this particular point:  association.  To narrow the field, somewhat; let us look at an association between something that exists at a certain time, and a nothing that has the potential to exist.  Well, actually, the nothing that has the potential to exist is actually something that exists; since, in this place in reality, potential is itself a thing that exists.  In fact, the whole of this reality, at this point, is potential, restrained.
At this point on the timeline of the existence of the kingdom of man, the potential, restrained, allows us to say that everything that is in this reality can be defined by referring to it as being, the something from which something comes.  For instance, among the, much something, that we readily recognize is the earth.  On this earth thing, there is a special something that we want to explore more.  Scripture describes a unique something that is a part of the design of the earth as being this broad and multi-faceted principle:  human occupation.
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.  I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
(Isaiah 45:18-19)
To many people, this may seem to be a trivial matter; however, many scientists–among which are the ecologists–are working vigorously and constantly to remind us of that particular design feature of the earth.  There is much study about the quality of the new things that can be provided from the things that are here now.  We are rapidly learning that the earth itself is subject to this often quoted principle of quality control; “Garbage in; garbage out”.  Though, we must add that; in our past, from time to time, God has overridden this principle, as we see here.
Gender Bias — Definitely: Part Twelve (For the Girls)
May 16th, 2013
A place for everything, and everything in its place:  Why is it that we can accept this for ordered physical reality, but not for proper order in spiritual interactions?  We know that there are component parts to service in the LORD.  For instance, at the inauguration of the mission of Israel, the LORD separated out an initial special section, with conditions.
And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:  And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.
These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
(Exodus 19:3-6)
In time, the LORD made clear that being His kingdom of priests did not indicate that being a priest was an umbrella assignment for every citizen of the newly redeemed congregation of Israel.
The Power of Something from Nothing: Part Seven (Association)
May 6th, 2013
There is another kind of appearance that we needed to have with God:  we needed to be able to match an action to an authorization.  We do this by obtaining an association.  It is commonly thought that mankind makes associations, but that is not correct in our relationship with God.  As pertains to our associations in God, we are limited to this kind of behavior.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:  Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
(Matthew 13:45-46)
This is the standard operating method of basic science.  For instance, mankind did not make the association between the behavior of the universe, and the laws of thermodynamics.  Mankind did discover that association.  Thereby, mankind discovered the power source that drives the behavior of the universe, on the lower, non-Spirit, level.  We needed this insight because we needed something that would show us the appearance of the association of God, with the behavior of . . . well . . . of everything.
Particularly, we needed something that would show us the association of God with the Power of Something from Nothing.  To give us this, God released the appearance of, His Word (Son).  We refer to it as, (Son), because, though it is an independent operative, it is, inseparably, a member of the Family of God.  The inseparability of the (Son) also gives it the authorization to operate as a fully powered origination from God.  The concept was introduced here.
Gender Bias — Definitely: Part Eleven (Neutralize Confusion)
April 25th, 2013
Rest in the LORD is not the same as surrender to the LORD.  Surrender must come first; then, rest will follow.  A kingdom example provides us some insight about the process.
These kingdoms were told that they needed to surrender to the LORD’S ordinance.
In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Thus saith the LORD to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck, And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah; And command them to say unto their masters, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say unto your masters;
I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.  And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.  And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
(Jeremiah 27:1-7)
These kingdoms also received the word that the possibility of rest was on the other side of surrender.  They also received the word that told them that discord and disarray was the only other possible outcome for them.
The Power of Something from Nothing: Part Six (Intercession)
April 14th, 2013
Intercession is a way of communicating with someone, from whom we want something, and that we have some authority to convince them that we should have that something.  The authority may be as peaceful as a recognized power of persuasion.  Alternatively, the authority may be as robust as the ability to control life, death, or both.  We want to explore the commonalities that are in each of these poles of persuasion, as expressed in intercession.
Our first example, of a local intercession that had a somewhat positive outcome and that was recognized by both parties, is this one.
And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.  And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
(Exodus 20:18-20)
That is an, our human sized space, intercession.  Of course; in the way of being participants, we are not limited to, our human-sized-space intercessions.  Sometimes, we are not limited to the resources of mankind; for, our human space might be “invaded” by an intercession that comes from an outside our recognized space in reality.  How can that happen?  To answer the above question, let us go to a much Higher Level.  Oh, let us just go to the top level of earth-directed intercession.
Gender Bias — Definitely: Part Ten (Reasoned Resignation)
April 4th, 2013
Our ultimate example begins here.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.  Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–;
and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
(Exodus 32:30-32)
Our ultimate example was perfected here.
And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.  And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying,
Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
(Luke 2:39-44)
The Power of Something from Nothing: Part Five (Appearance)
March 25th, 2013
Appearance is an interesting creation of God because it is more than a word.  Appearance is a concept.  A substantial amount of time can be used in managing the appearance of a thing.  Careers have been made, and lives have been lost, as based on appearances.  This is a key part of the Bible’s lesson in developing civilizations.  For instance, consider the following life example that is in Scripture, as you think about the part that appearance played in the decision making process of the king.  It is presented here in stages.
Warning:
Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.  The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:  The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven; He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:  Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:
Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beast’s heart be given unto him: and let seven times pass over him.  This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
(Daniel 4:10-17)
